International Nurses Day celebrates the contribution that nurses make to societies around the world. The date has a very strong significance, being the birthday of perhaps the world’s most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale.
Nurses are involved in all stages of emergency management, including prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. Proper training and protection are needed to keep them safe and healthy.
As COVID-19 continues to spread, nurses are some of the people that comprise our best defence to contain and mitigate this epidemic. They also face the highest risk of becoming infected themselves.
